A Message From Our President – July 2021
Chances are that you witnessed some pretty spectacular fireworks this week as we all came together to celebrate our nation’s birthday and the many freedoms we now perhaps take a little less granted. Even if you stayed home, there seemed to be fireworks going off everywhere. I hope you had a safe holiday filled with your favorite traditions.
I took the afternoon off work one day this week to sneak off to a theme park with my daughter and found myself very glad to see the return of so many travelers (ok, and a little nostalgic for the short wait times). I’ve noticed a lot of job postings in the tourism sector, as well as other sectors hit hard by the pandemic, and am hopeful all who are seeking employment will find their perfect match soon. Be sure to check out the job bank on our website as new positions are posted regularly.
Our PRSA Orlando Around Town Member Meetups have been going great. These small, in-person networking events offer an opportunity for members to get together on a smaller scale. There should be an event coming to your side of town, so check the PRSA Orlando events page and watch your inbox for your invitation. We also will be hosting a virtual Idea Swap on Thursday, July 15. Our informal discussion will focus on social media and specifically discuss strategies for handling social media trolls. Register today!
With all of this hot, sticky weather, nothing cools me off better than a tasty bowl or cone of ice cream. In fact, anyone who knows me well is aware that ice cream is my absolute favorite food on earth. That said, I couldn’t be more excited about our virtual August program which will feature Sean Greenwood, Ben & Jerry’s director of public relations on Thursday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. While I might find Ben & Jerry’s product line delicious, irresistible and fun, I am equally, if not more impressed, by the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and longstanding willingness to use its global platform to create change. I know this will be an incredible program and I look forward to seeing you all there.
Another can’t miss event is coming up this October when our chapter hosts ICON 2021 at the Marriott Orlando World Center October 17-19. If you would love to attend, but don’t have the funds to register, I strongly encourage you to apply for one of two scholarships available to PRSA Orlando chapter members. In addition, learn more about getting your brand noticed at ICON 2021 later in this newsletter. There are numerous sponsorship packages available and our team is ready to tailor one to fit your needs.
