A Message From Our President – August 2021

With the kids going back to school this month, it might be a good time for you to consider your own professional development this fall and we’ve got three great ways for you to do so from our August virtual program featuring Ben & Jerry’s Director of Public Relations, Sean Greenwood to the Accreditation workshops kicking off in September and the PRSA International Conference, ICON 2021, coming to Orlando October 17-19.

In today’s world, more and more companies are learning the importance of standing for social justice and corporate responsibility, but Ben & Jerry’s has been at the forefront of this movement for more than 40 years. On Thursday, August 19 at 10 a.m., we will have a front seat to hear how businesses can thrive when they lead with their values and get the “Inside Scoop” on how Ben & Jerry’s makes it work. Register today!

Becoming accredited is a great way to demonstrate your broad knowledge, strategic perspective and sound professional judgment. Our APR workshops will help guide you through the process to ensure you’re ready. The fall prep courses will kick off on Sept. 14 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Contact Ann Marie Varga, APR or Kelda Senior, APR to learn more.

And finally, just two months away, PRSA’s ICON 2021 will deliver 4 days of innovation, insights, ideas and inspiration. ICON brings renowned speakers and presenters together with leaders in the public relations and communications industry. You will have a world of learning right in your own backyard at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Don’t miss this opportunity for thought leadership, education, and connections that will sharpen your skills and accelerate your career.  If you haven’t registered yet, I urge you to do so today. And, if cost is an issue, the PRSA Sunshine District has two scholarships available to attend. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 25.

Your board is working hard to ensure the Orlando chapter is delivering outstanding programming and opportunities to connect with other professionals to help you succeed. If you have any suggestions on programs or other ways we can better serve our membership, please email me!

Keep shining!
