A Letter from the President | February 2025
Dear PRSA Orlando,
Congratulations! You made it past the longest month of the year – welcome to February!
This month, we celebrate Black History Month, and I encourage you to explore PRSA National’s curated collection of resources here. As part of the celebration, consider checking out some of the month-long programming by the Orange County Library System, including attending the African American Read-In on Sunday, Feb. 16. Last year, I borrowed my first autobiographical graphic memoir from OCLS, The Talk by Pulitzer Prize winner Darrin Bell. It’s a powerful memoir that explores the moments from childhood to adulthood that shaped his experience as a Black man – I highly recommend it.
Additionally, I want to take a moment to acknowledge PRSA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. In today’s evolving landscape, DEI efforts have faced increased scrutiny, yet PRSA remains steadfast in our belief that fostering inclusivity is fundamental to the future of our profession. I encourage you to read PRSA’s official position on DEI to learn more about how the association continues to support diverse voices and champion equity within the industry.
We are looking for volunteers for PR Paid Forward on Friday, April 11 at Rollins College. This half-day event is a great opportunity to give back to the community through pro bono PR services. If you’re interested, you can register to volunteer here.
I also hope to see you at our next program “PR and HR’s Role in Creating a Culture of Well-Being” on Wednesday, Feb. 19, featuring Mark Mohammadpour, APR, Fellow PRSA. Registration closes on Friday, so be sure to secure your spot here.
Finally, a huge thank you to our Bylaws Committee for updating PRSA Orlando’s bylaws for the first time in 20 years! After member approval in October, PRSA National officially approved the revisions. Read them here.
Looking forward to another great month with you all!
Warm regards,
Verónica Figueroa, APR
