Thanks to an endowment from PRSA Orlando, students majoring in public relations at the University of Central Florida have the opportunity to receive additional funding to assist their journey within the industry with the PRSA Orlando/Frank R. Stansberry Scholarship. This year’s recipient is Candice Joseph, a Fort Lauderdale resident expected to graduate this May.

Candace, 21, has the distinct honor of being a two-time recipient of this scholarship. We caught up with her to learn more about her future goals…

How do you plan to use your scholarship?

With this scholarship, I plan on using it toward my rent this semester.

What are your plans after college?

After college, I plan on moving to New York and working at an advertising agency. My goal is to work in advertising and eventually work in-house at a corporation. Ultimately, I plan on starting a business of my own.

Why is communication important?

Communication is important because it is a huge life skill that everyone should have, and it is how information is passed along, whether that is through people or the media.

Why do you feel that organizations such as PRSA are valuable?

Organizations such as PRSA are very important because they offer a lot for students like me, such as workshops, networking events, and a place to gain real world experience through seasoned professionals in the local area. I believe that communication students and professionals can truly gain a lot through this organization.

What is your favorite aspect of communications and why?

My favorite aspect of communication is the relationship building because I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.
