Marketing Communications Specialist I

The College of Arts and Humanities is looking for an early-career Marketing Communication Specialist I to assist in facilitating public relations and marketing efforts for the School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) stakeholders (including students, donors, industry, and community partners) through the marketing of academic programs.

General Responsibility: This role works to amplify the SVAD brand through compelling editorial stories, web content, and event materials. From promoting academic programs to coordinating special events like UCF Celebrates the Arts and Art Knight, it plays a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of SVAD's achievements and initiatives.

This entry-level position is a key part of a collaborative team, working closely with faculty, staff, and student interns to execute marketing campaigns and initiatives. It also involves networking with industry professionals and community stakeholders to expand our reach and impact.

Specific Tasks:

  • Produce editorial stories, web content, and event materials for units within the College of Arts and Humanities SVAD aligned with the college's marketing plan and university brand.
  • Works on various college and school committees regarding SVAD media representation and marketing.
  • Social media strategy, creation, and posting for the School of Visual Arts & Design (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, others as needed) that generates traffic and strengthens the school and universities social media presence.
  • Assist faculty and staff with promoting special events, including UCF Celebrates the Arts,Art Knight, lecture series, off campus performances, grant-funded events, and others.
  • Mass email strategy and administration of email newsletter system, including list management, scheduling, content creation, and analytic reviews for SVAD Units and UCF Art Gallery.
  • Produces marketing copy for the website and tracks analytics.
  • Coordinates work of student writers, photographers, videographers, and other interns.
  • Networks with industry professionals and community members to promote the school's offerings.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree in marketing ad/pr, digital media, visual arts, journalism or related discipline preferred.
  • Strong writing skills with experience using AP style.
  • Experience managing social media for brands using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • Experience using WordPress or content management systems.
  • Experience placing digital advertising.
  • Applications: Design tools (ie. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Express or Canva); Video editors (ie. iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Spark); Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT, TeamsEducation; experience with, or passion for the arts or humanities.

Supervision Received: Reports to the director of the School of Visual Arts and Design, and works closely with the SVAD marketing committee, the director of the UCF Art Gallery, and the director of marketing and communications for the UCF College of Arts and Humanities.

This is a full-time, in-person position. While UCF currently offers limited remote options for employees who have been with the university for more than six months, this is not guaranteed to continue. Applicants should plan on working Monday-Friday on the UCF campus, plus some evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary: $48,722.00
