Position Overview

UWLS is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Marketing and Communications Manager to lead day-to-day marketing and communications efforts that amplify our mission, increase community awareness, and support fundraising and programmatic goals. This is a mid-level position ideal for a self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively across departments and managing external partners to get things done.

This role will not supervise staff, but will be responsible for supervising interns and coordinating with vendors, freelancers, and consultants. The position supports all areas of the organization, with a close partnership with our development and community impact leads.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and execute marketing content across channels (website, social, email, print).
  • Write and design newsletters, donor appeals, flyers, event materials, and impact reports.
  • Ensure brand consistency and accuracy across all communications.
  • Assist in developing and implementing communications strategies that raise awareness and drive engagement.
  • Support volunteer committees such as Women United to advance their awareness and fundraising objectives.
  • Engage community and corporate partners to help share UWLS’s story and spotlight local challenges.
  • Be able to shift quickly and respond to emerging needs 

Media & Public Relations

  • Draft press releases and media advisories; maintain media list, and conduct regular outreach with local publications.
  • Support storytelling by collecting and organizing client success stories, testimonials, and photos (in partnership with program staff).
  • Proactively source and recommend speaking engagements that elevate the CEO’s visibility and support organizational awareness and fundraising goals.

Vendor & Project Management

  • Manage relationships with external designers, printers, web developers, and other vendors.
  • Oversee production timelines and ensure deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and on brand.

Development Support

  • Partner with the Development Director and CEO to create compelling donor communications, campaign messaging, and fundraising event promotion.
  • Support email marketing, CRM updates, and donor recognition materials.
  • Assist with planning, promotion, and execution of both internal and volunteer-led events.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or related roles (nonprofit experience a plus).
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and content calendars.
  • Proficient with Canva and email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact).
  • Comfortable managing projects and coordinating with external vendors.
  • Highly skilled in working with volunteers. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A collaborative spirit and willingness to support multiple teams and initiatives.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Familiarity with website management (e.g., WordPress, Wix).
  • Experience with CRM (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud)
  • Photography or video editing experience is a plus.
