General Description

The Communications Leader position for Toho is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, implementing and maintaining communications initiatives within a targeted area of Toho’s communications program.   The position is expected to perform the functions herein both independently and using additional internal and third-party resources where deemed necessary. Incumbent(s) in the position also serve as senior members of the Communications team and will routinely serve in project management roles that may extend beyond their primary area of focus.  Projects undertaken will support Toho’s Communications Plan as well as the developing communications, brand and digital strategies for the utility. Projects may include internal creative projects, digital initiatives, external communications and education campaigns and other specified efforts prioritized within the role. The projects undertaken will vary in size, scope and timeframes, but will require working closely with cross-functional teams within the organization and extending to external stakeholder groups.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop and implement integrated public relations campaigns and digital engagement strategies supporting the Promise, Priorities and Principals of Toho Water Authority.
  2. Write and/or coordinate Toho Water Authority’s articles to share new information, feature current programs and upcoming events, highlight employee accomplishments and provides insights about changes that impact Toho’s customers and/or employees.
  3. Provide information to media outlets by generating news releases and coordinating media interviews. Serves as a proactive media liaison between Toho Water Authority, the public and news media.
  4. Serve as Emergency Essential employee by disseminating information to the public before, during and after an emergency or disaster.
  5. Develop and lead the implementation of a unified social media strategy to elevate the visibility of Toho Water Authority, creating brand awareness while increasing an online audience.
  6. Develop and coordinate both large community events and special events involving Toho Water Authority.
  7. Lead communication efforts to inform, update and educate the community on the organization’s programs through news releases, media tip sheets, media event fact sheets, video presentations and other communication methods.
  8. Coordinate the internship program and help develop the skills of those who complete the program.
  9. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communication or related field.
  2. Minimum of three years relevant experience.
  3. Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidates ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) certification
  2. Experience with Associated Press (AP) Style
  3. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Environmental factors include indoor, flat surface, noise, sitting with occasionally walking and standing.

Salary 

$56,016.94 - $88,915.78 Annually
