Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) is seeking a dynamic, communications professional to join a newly created Global Communications Center of Excellence that is focused on leading holistic and integrated communications strategy that builds brand and business reputation and maximizes impact among key stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director, Internal Communications, this role requires a professional with experience in internal and employee communications, executive communications and employer branding with an ability to navigate complex issues and organizational change, identify and proactively mitigate against reputation risks through well-crafted communications programs, develop communications in support of a company’s growth ambition to mobilize the workforce and have a passion for evolving and transforming the way a company executes internal comms moving it from one of transaction to one of employee mobilization and engagement.  The position is responsible for the development and execution of the day-to-day internal communications activities and ensuring alignment of messages from the company and all of its businesses to our global associate audience.

The Associate Director will lead and project manage programs to support the annual internal communications strategy and associate engagement plan. In addition, the Associate Director will support executive communications, craft messages, and manage the crisis-related components for the DART strategy. This position will also be responsible for developing strategies, executing tactics and writing messages to sustain and improve the overall associate experience and drive awareness of the MVW employee value proposition.

This role will direct the details of numerous projects aligned to business goals and objectives, including partnering with stakeholders and internal clients to develop communication strategies, building project plans with appropriate deliverables, schedule follow ups to share progress and remain on schedule, providing creative input, managing the review and approval processes, writing messages, as well as integration into usage for MVW associates at all levels and all brands/businesses. The AD will work closely with cross functional senior leaders and functional heads in areas like Resort Operations, HR, IT and with the company’s other businesses including Interval International.

Success requires excellent oral and written communication skills, a resilient and solution-focused spirit, an ability to be a self-starter and serve as an integrator and trusted advisor.  The candidate should have a track record of developing talent.  Previous experience required in internal communications and executive visibility programs across a distributed workforce. This position will be a trusted advisor and will work cross-functionally to support business leaders to deliver results.

Specific Expected Contributions

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY, EXECUTION AND MEASUREMENT (45%)

  • Serve as a champion for change and cultural transformation, applying smart communication strategies and change management principles to enable speed and effectiveness within the organization.
  • Provide communication expertise, counsel and support for major business initiatives including product transformations, reorganizations, policy changes, etc.
  • Help disseminate enterprise-led communications and overarching messaging that increases awareness, understanding and pride across the organization.
  • Identify, prioritize and develop high-impact communications plans, campaigns and tactics.
  • Develop communications materials to help leaders prepare for key employee engagements (e.g., presentation materials, speeches, talking points).
  • Develop resources and tools to enhance communications effectiveness of senior leaders company wide.
  • Assist in managing the corporate intranet and lead efforts to evolve it as the key source for associates to get and share information, network and collaborate, and get work done. Partner with the extended communications team and develop a content strategy and editorial calendar for relevant content areas.
  • Implement strategy to monitor and track effectiveness of internal communications channels, messaging and programs.

COMMUNICATIONS INITIATIVES AND SUPPORT (40%)

  • Consult and coach project teams, managers, and supervisors.
  • Provide direct support and coaching to key stakeholders and front-line managers of others as they help their direct reports through transitions.
  • Facilitate change management activities with cross-functional team members and stakeholders to understand and ensure adoption of the transformation.
  • Oversee team execution in accordance with project plans, tools, and methods, and support resource planning.
  • In conjunction with the Learning/Talent Development team, this position will provide input, document requirements, and support the design and delivery of training programs.
  • Support the design, development, delivery, and management of communications.
  • Lead team/department deck development/webinars/meetings.
  • Oversee Communications for assigned functional areas that could include Resort Operations, HR, IT, and the Exchange and Third Party Management businesses.
  • Draft and incorporate specific Communications into the broader business editorial communications calendar.
  • Provides program management excellence; keeps multiple projects and initiatives on budget and on schedule.
  • Develops integrated marketing communications strategies and plans that support clearly defined business objectives.
  • Provides communications collateral that meets and exceeds business requirements.

TEAM AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT (15%)

  • Maintain a focus on elevating team’s ability to think broadly and holistically about communications plans from concept to completion.
  • Develop, lead and inspire the team, each responsible for defining and delivering communications and branded experiences.
  • Create and foster career development and growth paths for team in alignment with company and personal objectives.
  • Provide leadership expertise for initiatives within the assigned functional assignment (includes planning, implementation & evaluation).
  • Provides program management excellence; keeps multiple projects and initiatives on budget and on schedule.
  • Accesses and synthesizes data from a variety of sources to formulate informed viewpoints on organizational issues on which he/she is called in to support.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education

  • BA or BS Degree in Communications, Talent/Organizational Development, or Human Resources.
  • Change Management Professional and/or Project Manager certification preferred.

Technical Skills

AP Style, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Keynote, proficient with Apple operating system

Travel Requirements

Travel required. Approximately 10% of time

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in related field.
  • Proven experience delivering effective communications that deliver against our strategies, on time, on budget.
  • Timeshare/hospitality/lodging industry experience a plus; MVW-specific knowledge an advantage.
